TRAVEL TO JORDAN

Please Note: the following information is constantly subject to changes. Please double check with the Jordanian Embassy in Canberra (Tel: 02 6295 9951) about their requirements before your intended date of departure. Please remember to specify which border you are enquiring about to the Jordanian Consulate.

The crossing is permitted in both directions, that is, from Israel to Jordan and return from Jordan to Israel and return.

Crossing will be on foot - i.e tourists arriving at the crossing point in an Israeli vehicle will cross on foot and take a Jordanian vehicle on the other side. No Israeli or Jordanian registered vehicles will be permitted to cross the border. Tourists privately owned vehicles, registered in third countries, will be permitted to cross the border in accordance with existing regulations concerning type of vehicle permitted on each country's roads.

Customs regulations on the Israeli side of the border are the same as at Ben Gurion International Airport. For customs regulations on the Jordanian side of the border please contact the Jordanian Consulate.

Arava Crossing

The crossing is open 7 days a week throughout the year, but will close on Yom Kippur (Jewish day of atonement) and the Jordanian festival on the first day of the Hijirah Calendar.
The terminal is open from:
06.30 - 20.00 Sunday - Thursday
08.00 - 18.00 Friday and Saturday.

Tourists should be holders of passports valid for at least 6 months from the date of the crossing and should have a visa as required by each country.

If you would require a visa when entering Jordan or Israel via their international airports then you will also require one when crossing into either country from the other. For information about whether you require a visa to enter Jordan contact the Jordanian Embassy on 02 6239 7236

Israel recognises Jordanian stamps in passports and visas and vice versa. That is to say that Jordan will not create difficulties for tourists arriving at this border crossing with a passport bearing an Israeli stamp.

Please Note: If you wish to proceed to other Arab countries, in addition to Jordan and Egypt, you should check with their embassies if they allow entry once an Israeli stamp has been issued.
